Art and politics – are they different?

The opinion that art should not be political is itself  a political opinion – George Orwell

When working in local government the lines can sometimes become blurred. The joy of appreciating something can quickly be turned to a political agenda or view.  I rather, in those times, simply appreciate what is in front of me.

Art and Politics – are they different?

I appreciate libraries, museums, exhibitions, gardens, stately homes, garden spaces, theatre, art galleries too; all the joy and education they have to offer.  But at the end of the day, in this country at least, they rely on government funding and it is great shame that these places of solace and fulfillment tend to become the first to be cut.

Art shouldn’t be political, but alas it is.
