Man has been endowed with reason

I have a friend who sends me lovely quotes each week. Almost all of them are thought provoking and others are plain witty to lighten the mood. I love the quotes he finds for me! This week he sent the following quote, which got me thinking – we ‘us humans’ have so much potential and ability to make positive changes, yet those with means and power to do something have let us down or let down others, such as wildlife and nature, through lack.  Lack of decision, lack of informed decision, lack of consideration.  Here’s the quote:

Man has been endowed with reason, with the power to create, so that he can add to what he has been given. But up to now he hasn’t been a creator, only a destroyer. Forests keep disappearing, rivers dry up, wildlife has become extinct, the climate’s ruined and the land grows poorer and uglier every day. Anton Chekhov 1897 Russian writer 1860 – 1904

My friend commented “isn’t the date interesting”. Yes it is and it is disappointing that we still have not made the progress we should have, to create a better environment around us.  We (as in the royal we) live so mindlessly sometimes, which is why I find it important to be more mindful of what is around me and other people around me. It is just like Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see in the world”

Come on spill: What change would you like to see in the world and what are you doing to make that change? Tell me in the comments and lets see what we can achieve together! Have a lovely day x
